The Warrnambool Library project, valued at $22 million, is an impressive heritage refurb that brings together a joint-use learning and library hub. It involves a three-story contemporary addition to the Gun and Orderly Room, a historic structure built in 1868. The existing building has undergone extensive refurbishment to create the new main entrance of the library.
The Warrnambool Library is a joint collaboration between the Victorian State Government, South West TAFE, and Warrnambool City Council. It has been nominated for several categories in the 2023 AIA Victorian Architectural Awards, including public architecture and heritage architecture. This recognition showcases the project’s success in realising its design vision and providing a unique community asset for both South West TAFE and the Warrnambool Cultural Precinct.
Heritage Glass played an integral role in the project by supplying the external glazed facade, skylight canopy, and internal glazing; working closely with the architects to ensure that the heritage charm of the building was harmoniously blended with modern glazing.
