Hamer Hall, Melbourne

The heritage listed, iconic Melbourne landmark, Hamer Hall, undertook a rejuvenating facelift as part of the Southbank cultural precinct redevelopment. A modern touch was added to the building by incorporating a mirror stainless and glass frontage on the main ground floor entrance to create a more outward facing venue making it inviting to the public.

Detailed bronze and silver mirrors were added to the various internal levels to create an illusion of reflection and space. A new bold black anodised aluminium box detailing was added to the façade of the riverside frontage of the venue.

The scope of the project for Heritage Glass was to deliver the new façades of the ground floor entrance and riverside frontage as well as the internal levels of detailed floor to floor bevelled bronze and silver mirror.

The major challenges of the project were the mirror finish stainless panelling to the ground floor entrance inside and out. This panelling had to be segmented and appear seamless following the 30 metre structural radius of the building, a very detailed and complex process. Another challenge was the detailed architectural glass frames that appeared along the riverside frontage. Made up of complex and unusual shapes, the façade required glass to be templated and processed.

Heritage Glass with the help of Schiavello and their manufacturing facilities achieved a positive result completing the project successfully given these challenges.
